Pressmeddelande -

STRONG PASSENGER GROWTH AT SWEDAVIA’S AIRPORTS

The robust passenger growth at Swedavia’s airports continues. During the first three months of the year, passenger volume was up 6.1 per cent compared to the same period last year. As a result of the increase, passenger volume at Swedavia’s ten airports also passed the 40 million mark for the first time on a rolling twelve-month basis.

Demand for air travel continues to rise. This was especially apparent at Swedavia’s ten airports, where the strong passenger growth in recent years continued during the first quarter of 2017. The number of international passengers increased 6.8 per cent, while the number of domestic passengers increased 4.9 per cent. Passenger growth overall was 6.1 per cent. This strong trend also looks set to continue going forward, although there is some uncertainty as to what effects any national aviation tax could have in the long term.

“The fact that air travel is on the rise is good for Sweden and Swedish competitiveness. To accommodate for the sharp increases in passenger volume that we will see in the years ahead we will increase the pace of our development work, to enhance capacity at our airports,” says Jonas Abrahamsson, who assumed the position of President and CEO at Swedavia on January 2 this year.

Consolidated net revenue during the quarter totalled SEK 1,347 M (1,299), which was an increase of SEK 48 M or 3.7 per cent compared to last year. The growth in passenger volume at Swedavia’s airports largely contributed to the higher net revenue.

Operating profit was SEK 116 M (126) and profit for the period was SEK 80 M (87). A reduction in charges to airlines as well as accrual effects from costs for maintenance, IT and the environment explain the lower operating profit compared to the previous year.
